Apple has opened its Apple Store Myeongdong in Seoul, South Korea, and has released images of the launch of its newest outlet and the first influx of customers.

After teasing the store’s launch in early April and releasing photos of the store’s pre-opening, Apple Myeongdong store is finally open for business. On Saturday morning, customers lined up outside the branch, which is located in the heart of South Korea’s capital, to be among the first to enter the store.

Photos released by Apple show customers walking through rows of cheering and applauding employees to view and purchase products on launch day. The first customers will receive a box containing a commemorative tote bag, complete with a custom image of the Apple logo.

Apple restricted the number of customers as part of health-related measures, with attendees previously making a free booking to gain entry.

The two-storey shop sits at the base of an all-new tower in the city, featuring landscaped pocket gardens and locally commissioned sculptures. It also has the first installation of a “double height horizontally supported glass facade”, as well as a staircase “made transparent by glass risers”.

Another first is the addition of a dedicated Apple Pickup area to the store, which Apple says is the first of its kind in Asia.

As part of the opening, Apple is holding a Today at Apple event where users remix a song by K-pop group Seventeen. The track, “Darl+ing”, is a previously unreleased single from the group, which will be part of the group’s May 2022 album.
